what the VAA can do during the writing process

  • Inventory and organize author’s intellectual property to help author determine the book content that still needs to be written
  • Research the book's potential reading audience (essential for a successful book proposal)
  • Fact-check book content for accuracy and determine if permission for using certain information is needed
  • Research ownership and obtain permissions for use of quotes and interviews, etc.
  • Oversee the peer and audience review process once the author has identified appropriate reviewers; send out manuscript with review question letter and follow up
  • Research potential publishers for the book proposal
  • Gather information as part of a competitive analysis (also required for the book proposal)
  • Prepare the manuscript to send as part of the book proposal, closely adhering to each particular publisher's submission guidelines
